Let's look at some things to consider for a new home design: Of course the basics of how many bedrooms, bathrooms, garage or carport. Also for your consideration: Who will live there? What are lifestyles? Are there children? What are their ages? Are they in school, college? How many people of driving age? Are there boats? RV? Quads? It's time to play outdoors, swimming, BBQ? Is the family "up" or is it dinner time spent together? How old is expected to own this house. Is there disabled residents? Is there a possibility in the foreseeable future the home will be handicap accessible? The list goes on. Each answer to these questions opens the door to other questions. Each project is unique.

Next is the leading research, know what you have to work and what are the possible limitations. How can the alignment of the house added to save energy (passive solar)? Where are the best views? Is there a vision that must be blocked? Is there any chance that someone can build within the viewshed? Will the time spent in the great room, the kitchen? Where natural light can be used to its fullest? If west windows limited or eliminated? How do they interact entry with the main entrance, garage and the entrance most used? Is there a pool? Slope can be used to plant two levels? Earth-fill needs to be brought? Is septic or sewer? Where can leach field is? What about an alternative drain field? What are the limits of construction? Are there natural areas be preserved? Are there CC & R? Is there a Homeowners Association? Are there special zoning conditions to adhere to? It is located in a flood zone? Are there any easements, etc? Again, only a sample of questions, each project is unique with its own assets and liabilities.
